Peter launched his financial services career in April of 1982, joining Merrill Lynch one month before Mark TeKamp, in the same office. Following his start at Merrill Lynch, he worked as a retail stockbroker, commercial paper trader, on the stock loan desk, and as a portfolio manager — all with Ferris & Company, where he met Bob Sullivan. Additionally, he has held leadership positions in sales, marketing, and operations. He has served as Senior Vice President, Corporate Secretary, and Director of Investor Relations for a NYSE traded insurance company, and was co-founder of a software-as-a-service firm focused on streamlining the delivery of veterans’ benefits. Peter joined HWMG in late 2018, contributing his organizational development, corporate governance, operations, and communications experience as an integral element of the firm’s continued growth and expansion.
Peter earned the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) professional designation from The American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, and his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia. Prior to launching his financial services career, he spent five and a half years on active duty as a line officer in the US Navy.
Peter is a former Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Norfolk Community Services Board. He currently serves on the Amherst County Board of Zoning Appeals and is the President of his local Rotary Club. He lives in Amherst with his wife, Jean, and they have three grown children. In his spare time, Peter enjoys UVa sporting events, shooting sports, hunting, golf, and shelling on the beach at Sanibel Island, Florida.
