Mark has had an extensive and rewarding career in the financial services industry. He started out at Merrill Lynch in 1982 as a financial advisor and made several firm changes over the next 22 years. Possessing a high degree of empathy both for those he works for and with, Mark came to realize that the most important value that his clients assign to their wealth is not what it is, but what it does — providing for the needs of those whom they love and will leave behind…family members and institutions that they believe have the capacity to improve life in the world.
The more intimately Mark sought to work with his clients, the more apparent it became to him that his employer’s priorities were not always compatible with his understanding of how to provide caring and responsible service to his clients. Mark came to believe the need existed to create a financial advisory practice in which the firm would create a relationship with its advisors worthy of serving as a model for how the firm’s advisors would serve their clients. Consequently, in 2004, Heritage Wealth Management Group was founded with the vision to focus the entirety of the firm’s resources on supporting the advisors’ primary professional purpose for being: serving the client and helping them successfully achieve their life’s objectives and purpose. 
Mark resides in the Ghent area of Norfolk and is married to Margie. He is the father of one daughter and three sons, including twin boys who are recent college graduates. His service activities include the Kairos Prison Ministry and various other church related activities. A graduate of Virginia Tech, he claims to bleed Hokie maroon and orange and loves to listen to works of history while walking hundreds of miles each year.
