Steve joined Heritage Wealth Management Group after a successful career in business as an entrepreneur and accountant. Joining the company in 2019 as VP of Finance, he also helps direct and execute the growth and expansion plans of the firm.

Before joining our firm, Steve was Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer, and Director of Development at Cruise International, where he helped grow them into a $100 million company. He also served as President of the Spirit of Norfolk Dinner Boat organization where he learned that by understanding what people wanted, he could deliver a product that people enjoyed. With his partners, Steve spearheaded the revitalization of Taylor’s Landing Marine Center, one of the anchor companies involved in the rebirth of Norfolk’s Ocean View area. During those years, he served as a member of the Mayor’s Task Force for Ocean View.

Steve has also had his own accounting practice, and he’s worked as a financial counselor with the Small Business Development Center of Hampton Roads for over twenty years. In 2008, Steve was honored by the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce with the TowneBank Award for exceptional dedication in advancing the region’s economy through entrepreneurship and achievement. As a volunteer for over fifty years at the YMCA of South Hampton Roads, he is twice the recipient of the coveted YMCA Service to Youth Award.

Steve is the Founder and Executive Director of Right Thinking Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization which fights recidivism by teaching individuals through his national financial literacy curriculum, “Personal Finance and Small Business Ownership,” how to reach goals by understanding how money works in their lives. He also hosts a weekly radio show, ‘Right Thinking with Steve Coplon,’ and is a published magazine and book author.A native of the Hampton Roads area, Steve attended Old Dominion University and graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University. He now resides in Norfolk with his wife, Donna, where they enjoy their five children and seven beautiful grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, swimming, hiking and spending time with his grandchildren.
